Moumou Kai – Avoiding Food Waste
Presented by Blandina Diamond | General Manager - KiwiHarvest
Each year in New Zealand over 300,000 tonnes of perfectly good food is being sent to landfill from both industry and households, while 1 in 5 children in New Zealand suffer from hunger. Decaying food trapped in landfill produces methane which is a green-house-gas that is far worse than CO2. Blandina will be sharing the statistics of food waste in Aotearoa but then also sharing the great results and progress that is being made by Food Rescue organisations as well as other solutions focused on reducing food waste. Blandina is keen to open a discussion about food waste challenges in the food sector from growers to consumers and including all stakeholders within the food supply chain whether manufacturing, supermarkets or the hotel and hospitality industry. During the seminar Blandina will be exploring other solutions, ideas and tools available to businesses to reduce food waste and potentially reduce costs. KiwiHarvest is keen to see all Kiwi’s discover a new level of respect for our food and all the resources that go into getting it from farm to fork.
