Tips for export and updates to food safety rules - Grace Powell and Simon Holst - New Zealand Food Safety

New Zealand Food Safety (NZFS), part of the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI), ensures that the food that is grown, produced, prepared, shared and consumed across Aotearoa, and exported from our shores, is safe and sustainable for everyone. Join Simon Holst (Food Regulation) and Grace Powell (Exporter Regulatory Advice Service /ERAS) who will explain important food regulatory changes you need to know about, and introduce you to what you need to know about exporting.

You will hear about

•           ERAS services and exporting

•           changes to importing food

•           new mock recall rules

•           changes to allergen labelling.

The ERAS team’s key role is to help primary industries on their export journey. The Food Regulation team oversees regulatory development and implementation of rules around food and primary production, including animal products and imported food. They also oversee New Zealand standard setting functions and the food implementation programme.

ABOUT THE PRESENTERS

Simon Holst – Senior Adviser, Food Regulation

Simon has spent over 30 years working in food. He joined MPI in 2015 and for the last six years has been in the Food Regulation team. Grace Powell – Principal Adviser, Exporter Regulatory Advice Service

Given Grace's strong interest in science, study and a career in the food industry was a pairing as classic as wine and cheese. Harking from the agricultural hotspots of Hawera and Hamilton, it was her destiny to start in the dairy industry. She eventually said farewell fromage and hello chocolate, working in the Netherlands for a cocoa processor. Grace enjoys putting her diverse experience to good use in her current role as a Principal Adviser for Exporter Regulatory Advice Service where she helps businesses understand the rules for export.
